Festivals and Events

One thing that Italy is known for are the festivals and local neighborhood events. Depending on what time of year that you plan to visit, there is usually something going on. The festivals are a change of pace from doing the typical sight seeing. Tuscany has a lot of beautiful sights to see but the festivals are fun for adults and for children as well.

Tuscany is one of the most beautiful places in Italy and there culture is so enriching. The festivals that they have culture as well as costumes and history. The spring and summer months are when the most festivals are held.
In April, Florence has an event called Medieval Explosion of the Cart. If you like medieval costumes and admire the times, this is a festival for you to attend.

In May, Querceta holds their annual Renaissance Parade and Horse Race. June and July are the months where the festivals really come in to play. In Pescia, the annual birthday of Pinocchio is celebrated every year. In Arezzo, the Medieval Pageant and Jousting Tournaments are held in June. Over in Pisa, The Battle of the Bridge is held; they have water games on the Arno River.

In July, the city of Lucca has The Medieval Parade and Horse Race. The city of Siena has the Palio Horse Race and Pageant. In August, the Races at Siena are held again. Massa Marittina holds a very informative Historical Pageant.

There are a few winter events held, in February the city of Vernio holds a Polenta Festival, September has Parade and Historical Ball Game held in Prato and in Carmignano, they have their own Historical Parade and Horse Race.

Sight seeing is great, when you want to come to Tuscany, you want to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa and all the history of the region. But do yourself a favor and come to one of these festivals. They are a lot of fun and very much for the entire family.
